Frequently Asked Questions

  • In some respects, yes. Artists are selected based on artistic excellence and relevance to each exhibition’s curatorial framework.

Inspired by recent artist income programs in New York State and Ireland, we aim to build a structure that more fully recognizes and supports artists’ labor.

  • We work with all artists across disciplines and career stages. Our mission is to advance innovative, experimental, and groundbreaking work. As an organization, we are also committed to supporting communities of color and immigrant communities.

  • Nguyen Arts Fund (NF) is supported through a diversified funding strategy that includes charitable support, grants, and earned income. This model allows us to prioritize long-term sustainability while remaining scalable as our exhibitions and programs expand.

As a U.S.-based organization, our pay structure is informed by nonprofit arts standards. We will soon launch our pilot program alongside a national crowdfunding campaign to assess these funding strategies and to plan for future programming.

  • Each member of the Curatorial Council curates one exhibition in alignment with NF’s mission to advance innovation in the arts. Curators also review and provide approval on other curators’ exhibition concepts and execution. Curators can engage with some aspects of NF’s operation on a case-by-case basis.

  • Artists are encouraged to follow us on social media and subscribe to our mailing list. Open calls are announced as they become available.

For Venues

Nguyen Arts Fund (NF) partners with art spaces to present exhibitions that prioritize fair pay, professional standards, and sustainable support for artists. The following outlines the core principles of working with NF.

  • NF reserves the right to identify, approach, and select venues within its network for potential collaborations. Participation in the NF network is voluntary and subject to mutual agreement.

  • At present, NF produces exhibitions exclusively curated by NF curators. Requests for collaborations initiated by external organizations, venues, or third parties are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, subject to NF’s internal capacity, mission alignment, and operational considerations, with no obligation to accept such requests.

  • Venues manage gallery operations, staffing, and sales during the exhibition.

  • Venues retain their standard commission on sales.

  • NF applies a 10% operational fee only when sales occur, shared evenly between the artist (5%) and venue (5%). No fee is charged if no sales take place.

  • NF brings artists, curatorial concepts, and an active collector and art network to support sales.

  • Exhibitions are promoted jointly through venue and NF channels.

  • Rental agreements are exceptions rather than the norm and should not duplicate commission-based revenue.

  • During NF exhibitions, NF provides limited professional support related to non-payment, discrimination, or immigration-related issues, as applicable. This does not replace independent legal counsel.

  • Venues may opt into the Nguyen Arts Fund Network for continued visibility.

This overview is intended for general reference. Full terms are outlined in NF’s Venue Partnership Guidelines (available upon request).
